Alurwyn:
"Knowledge is the most dangerous weapon."
Alurwyn is a fourteen years old boy. He was born in Rahden'Cazm, a village on
the other side of Dana. Raised by only a mother, Alurwyn never had a strong
father figure to look up to. When his mother, Nadia, was wrongly accused of
thieving, her hands were slashed off. She moved to Danar'Cazm in order to
prevent more abuse, and to protect her child. Now they live off the land,
surviving under the harsh circumstances of the mountainous region.
Alurwyn is in many ways still a careless child, his mother hid him away
from the atrocities of poverty, law, and life in general. His mother
never cried in his presense, and never sought comfort when she lost
her hands. Alurwyn loves to read, and read every book he came across
in his life. Most of his knowledge comes from the books, and he is proud
of himself, because no one else in the village, except for his mother and
the village witch, can read. He feels superior, in a certain way, that he
is so learned and wise. But he will soon be left disillusioned...

Kandar: "Friends are for life!"
Kandar is Alurwyn's best friend and of the same age. Kandar has always lived
in Danar'Cazm, and being the son of the only smith in the area, he doesn't
live in poverty. His parents are kind people, sharing what they can with their
fellow village folk. They always allow Kandar all the freedom he needed, and
encouraged him to spend much time outdoors. Kandar is an active person,
and would not easily sit indoors for a day. He tries to help where he can,
but often loses his attention too soon.

Maylin:
"There is something good in everyone!"
Maylin is a young half-Caenigh'Bëanin, she has barely reached the age of twelve,
and often finds that her caenigh side conflicts with her human side. At times
she behaves like a little puppy, and at times she is a normal human girl.
Her mother is a full-blooded Caenigh'Bëanin, a dog-like race, and has fled
to Danar'Cazm because of discrimination from both caenigh as humans. Maylin's father
is perfectly human, and his dedication to his family warmed Maylin's heart since
she was born. From the caenigh she inherited the loyalty and trust
from the humans her caring and love. She thinks people should not be so intolerant
of each other.

Cha'ad:
"We trust to be betrayed. We live to die."
Cha'ad is a year older than Alurwyn and Kandar, and came to Danar'Cazm a
couple of years later than Alurwyn. He does not officially live there,
but the village seems to have accepted him. Although he causes more trouble
than anyone else, the people pity him. His parents abandoned when he was eight,
and he had to take care of himself from that moment on. He likes Maylin a lot,
because she is kind to him, but he does not know how to handle it. What if he
would trust her? Surely she'd betray him like his parents did.
